Like their other books, this is well-researched and is full of tempting recipes. The recipes are mostly from South East Asia, some are what we call 'fusion food' from restaurants,others are more 'authentic' looking. But,all are fusion and authentic at the same time because what people eat is constantly changing and developing, and I think this is what the authors are showing us here. The list of ingredients tend to be long but, even if you try only the simple recipes this book is worth the money you pay. However, the actual preparation is not complicated and the recipes are so tempting! (Especially the desserts.) This book is also a great read, full of essays on food and culture.

Wow what a gorgeous, sumptuous book - if a little large.
The recipes are split into regions as well as courses & with each chapter you get a little potted history of the people, place and cuisine accompanied by the most beautuful photographs.
The ingredients are not difficult to source for British people - the book appears to be for the American market - and the measuring is in US cups, lbs or grams which is helpful.
I've only tried 2 recipes so far, Noodle rib curry and Massaman steak, and both were easy to do, looked great and ate well.
If you like beautiful, inspiring cookbooks then this is the one for you however your cookbook stand won't hold it - it's too bloomin' big!

This book is truly beautiful, if a little large for most cookbook stands. I feel like laminating every page to protect it from the inevitable splashes it can suffer in the kitchen. I wanted a truly authentic cookbook and having read the reviews, I bought this from Amazon a few years back, adding it to my ridiculously large collection of cookbooks.
Reading it inspired me to go out and buy a whole range of exotic ingredients I'd never even heard of before (I ended up filling an entire box full of the stuff, which delighted the keeper of the ethnic ingredients shop I'd found).
Every time we feel like eating Thai food, out comes the box of goodies and this book - we are NEVER disappointed. I have to say I think the Chang Mai curry is my favourite so far, a recipe I regularly go back to, but there hasn't been a dish I've made from this book that we've disliked yet.
As well as being an invaluable addition to any cookbook collection (definately amongst my top ten all time favourites), it contains absolutely stunning photography that I find myself browsing through when I should really be reading the recipes. It is also very informative about the various regions and food influences of Thailand, so if, like me, you create the occasional Thai banquet to impress at a dinner party, you'd be able to speak with some knowledge when the inevitable 'foodie' questions begin.
I have two other of the cookbooks in this 'Beautiful' range (Italy and China), but this one is definately my favourite of the three. If I were asked if I had any criticism to make, I'd say it's an awkward size for use in the kitchen, but this only serves to add to the book's overall elegance, so don't let that put you off.

Thai food has been my favourite food since I first tasted a green curry in a good Thai restaurant about 6 years ago. Having visited Thailand nearly two years ago I looked high and low for an authentic thai cookbook with a "real" green curry recipe. I must have tried at least 6 different recipes for green curry but none of them tasted quite like the real curry's you can find in good restaurants and in Thailand. I finally found this book and was thrilled as the recipes are genuine Thai recipe's and not anglasised versions of Thai themes.
It is broken up into different regions of Thailand and gives you an idea of how the Thai's eat. Also it uses the ingredients you would find in Thailand which you can get from specialist shops here in the UK but you can substitute ingredients you are unable to find.
You will find everything you could expect to see in a Thai restaurant in this book including the traditional red and green curries, pad thai, spring rolls, broccoli in oyster sauce, all the different fried prawn starters, different rice dishes as well as some extras like chicken with cashew nuts, curried shrimp etc. Overall a fantastic cookbook and my bible when it comes to Thai food.

It is a beautiful book, and without fail everything I've cooked has been excellent - very authentic and easy! NB - all the measurements are American. The book has superb pictures and is written in a user friendly way. A little on the large side - i'll have to increase the size of my cook book shelf!

I bought this book for my husband because I was traveling a lot, he loved Thai food and he needed to learn to cook. Little did I know what a gorgeous book it would be. My husband, who has lived in Thailand, tells me the recipes are authentic and easy to prepare (if you find fresh ingredients). He found this "cookbook" so yummy that he left me and opened a Thai restaurant in Australia. BUY THIS BOOK. . . BUT KEEP IT FOR YOURSELF!!!!!

Beautiful photographs of a beautiful land, this is a trip around Thailand with cooking to the fore. Some of the ingredients are difficult to get hold of, but on the whole a very worthy book. If like me, you love thai food and you have the time to indulge, it is worth getting this book.

This book not only has excellent well explained recipes but an excellent guide to ingredients and their alternatives. The narrative that takes you in a regional tour of the country adds to the sense of adventure. I had never cooked Thai foods before using Vatchs recipes and found them reliable and easy to follow. I have the hard back version of this book - this edition was brought as a gift as the hard back was unavailable but my gripe with the paper back is that is perfect bound which means it won't lie open - a real pain in the kitchen!
